The undergraduate college programs in the US focus on holistic development of a student, so academics is just one part of their education. Sports, extracurricular activities, learning on a real job, exploring hobbies/passions and all aspects of personality make up the rest of the education.
Programs focus on teacher led learning and peer learning, so students have to participate and interact more with others. This leads to a student becoming more open or extrovertish and an interactive team player, respecting diversity and celebrating cultural and individual differences.
The programs are very flexible and not straightjacketed. Students have a lot of freedom to choose subjects of their choice, say you can study music with mathematics and physics.
Programs are divided into semesters, still a hardworking student can complete a four-year course in three years by taking extra courses.
A standardized credit system allows students to transfer credits from one university to another so changing a university in the middle of a course is possible.
